Cork ETB Youth Orchestra Auditions

 

Cork ETB Youth Orchestra will be holding auditions for prospective members on the following instruments on Tuesday the 5th May from 630pm to 830pm in Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig.

 

 

Strings

Viola
Double Bass

 

Woodwind

Oboe
Bassoon

 

Brass

Trumpet
Trombone
French Horn
Tuba

 

Percussionists

Audition candidates will be informed whether or not they have obtained a place within 2 days of the audition.

 

Cork ETB Youth Orchestra are excited to inform you that we will be going on tour next year to Andalusia in Spain from the 29th March to the 2nd of April. The tour operators have advised that all members participating on the tour will be required to pay a deposit by the last week of June 2015 to secure their place on the trip. Successful audition candidates will be further advised on the trip abroad on obtaining their place in the orchestra.

 

Admission Policy

Prospective members must audition and/or meet certain criteria to gain membership to the Orchestra.

 

Age Criteria:

Students must be age 13 or over
Membership is open to 2nd level students and upwards only.

 

Grade Criteria:

Strings

Viola players must have grade 4 completed(exceptions may be made for lower grade viola players if they are mature enough and have developed position playing)
Double Bass players must be of grade 3 standard.

 

Familiarity with sight-reading and playing in positions is essential for all prospective string players.

Brass

Grade 3 completed
Lower grades may attain membership at the discretion of their teachers recommendation. Places may also be awarded on the basis there be the need for the instrument in the orchestra.

 

Woodwind

Grade 4 completed to attain membership.
Lower grades may attain membership at the discretion of their teachers recommendation. Places may also be awarded on the basis there be the need for the instrument in the orchestra.

 

Percussion

Percussion players will be admitted on the basis they meet the standard required by the CCSM percussion tutor.

 

Audition Procedure

Prospective members must present 2 pieces from a recent exam or exam for which they are preparing. They will be expected to sight read from an unseen orchestral excerpt at the audition.

 

Additional Information

Membership is open to both Cork ETB students and external students. Priority will be given to Cork ETB students if places are limited.

 

In the case of students who perform poorly at an audition but receive good exam results, they may be considered for a place in consultation with their teacher.
